Abstract
391,177. Hypodermic syringes. NOVOCOL CHEMICAL MFG. CO., Inc., 2921, Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Goldberg, S. D. ; 406, East 94th Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 16, 1931, No. 28815. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1930. [Class 81 (ii).] An ampoule 2 employed in hypodermic syringes is closed, at the end to be punctured by the needle; by a cap comprising layers 21 of rubber separated and stiffened by a layer 22 of fabric and covered with a layer 23 of aluminium foil or other material sterilizable by flaming. The cap is held in place by a ring 18 of metal having an annular flange 18a and is crimped as at 19 into an annular recess 16 in the ampoule. The capped end of the ampoule is of reduced internal diameter as at 17. In a modification the cap comprises a single rubber layer having a fabric layer immediately beneath the foil 23. In use the cap once sterilized is protected from contamination by the foil &c. 23 which itself may be sterilized in a flame before insertion into the syringe. The piston plugs of ampoules such as above may be of different colours to indicate different strengths of contents. The head of the plunger rod of the syringe may be formed with a conical depression leaving an annular rim for engagement with the piston plug. The syringe body is provided with a screw-threaded sleeve embracing the plunger rod and having a shouldered annular skirt which engages over and securely holds the upper end of the ampoule.
