Abstract

390,281. Endless-belt conveyers. CLEPHAN, G., The Cottage, Monkseaton, Northumberland. Jan. 19, 1932, Nos. 1638 and 4996. [Class 78 (i).] In a conveyer gear head of the kind comprising a plurality of driven drums C, D, the driving motor E is arranged between the side members A of the gear head frame. The motor shaft is connected by reduction gearing 1, 2 to a countershaft G which is connected by reduction gearing 3, 4 to the shaft of the drum D. The gear 4 meshes with a similar gear on the shaft of the other drum. The motor is preferably of the kind comprising a cylindrical stator held in position between segmental band clips F, F which enable it readily to be removed. The area of contact of the belt with the drum D may be increased by providing a binder pulley H which may be resiliently mounted in an adjustable block and used also as an adjustment and tension pulley. In a modification, the motor is arranged with its axis at right angles to the drum shafts and drives the countershaft through bevel gearing. In each construction material is prevented from spilling into the sides of the conveyer head by plates attached to the side frames of the head and extending downwards so that their edges overlap the edges of the belt.
