Abstract

388,165. Gearing for presses. JACKSON, C. E. and HUNT, T. J., 30, Paradise Street, Birmingham. Dec. 28, 1931, No. 35767. [Class 87 (ii).] Driving-mechanism for presses and like machines requiring accurate control of an intermittently reciprocal ram comprises a bevel epicyclic train controlled by a brake. One side gear 14 of the train is rigid with a shaft 12 carrying a wheel 5 driven through a pinion (not shown), and belt gearing from a motor. The other side gear 14<1> is-rigid with a shaft 13 extending in line with the shaft 12 and carrying at its far end a drum 10 to which is applied a band brake (not shown), controlled by a spring-returned pedal lever. Planets 15 meshing with the gears 14, 14<1> are freely revoluble on a cross shaft 16 supported in a casing 17 to which is secured a transmission pinion 26. The pinion 26 drives a wheel on the shaft of which is a pinion meshing with a rack on the verticallymoving weight-returned ram of the press.
