388,154. Slicing vegetables. HOLLIS, T. R., 194, Jockey Road, Wylde Green, near Birmingham. Dec. 14, 1931, No. 34548. [Class 5 (i).] A machine for slicing vegetables, fruit, and the like comprises a rotatable e bladecarrying part and a rotatable part or apertured disc against which the vegetables or fruit are pressed and beyond or through which the blade or blades project, the two said parts turning about the same axis and one of said parts being provided or formed with a plurality of seating surfaces or supports disposed in stepped formation or of varying heights and against one or other of which the other part is adapted to be engaged or pressed, for the purpose of varying the axial distance between the two parts so as to vary the depth of cut. Blades 7 are attached by stepped plates 8 to the arms 6 of the blade-carrying part which, together with the apertured disc 10, is mounted on the spindle 1 rotated by the handle 5. The disc 10 is adjustably fixed to the blade-carrying part by a pin-and-slot connection 12, 13. Stepped seating surfaces 17, 19, 20 for the ends of the arms 6 are formed on the circumference of the disc 10 adjacent blade openings 11. Stepped seating surfaces 19a, 20a may also be provided at the inner ends of the openings 11 or three such surfaces may be provided. Alternatively, the stepped surfaces may be provided on lugs on the arms 6 engaging slots in the disc 10. Vegetables &c. are fed through a hopper 15 which may be detachable so that hoppers of varying form may be used ; or two or more hoppers may be fixed to the machine.
