Abstract

376,441. Slicing vegetables. HOLLIS, T. R., 194, Jockey Road, Wylde Green, near Birmingham, and CROSS & SON, Ltd., W., Bond Street, West Bromwich. May 29, 1931, No. 15710. [Class 5 (i).] An appliance for slicing or shredding vegetables, fruit, and the like comprises a rotary cutter or blade-carrying part attached or adapted to be attached to the feed-worm spindle of a mincing machine after the removal of the existing fixed and rotary cutters, and a fixed part or frame adapted to be secured to the body of the mincing machine, the said fixed part or frame carrying a hopper or having an opening through which the articles to be sliced or shredded are fed to the said cutter or bladecarrying part. The hopper carrier comprises a frame 1 having a hollow circular boss 2 fitting into the end of the body 3 of the mincing machine, a lug 4 on the boss 2 engaging an aperture 5 in the body 3. A central circular aperture 6 in the boss 2 fits over a collar on the feed worm 8. The frame 1 has an opening 10 and grooves 11 into which a detachable hopper 12, Figs. 8 and 10, is slid. The cutter comprises a number of radial or tangential blades 18 fixed to, and adjacent slots 19 in, a disc 17 having a boss 20 fitting over the collar on the feed worm 8 and being secured thereto. The blades 18 are adjustable by means of nuts 27 and screw pins 26 engaging slots 25 in shank portions 24 of the blades. Notches 28 in the shank portions also engage lugs 29 on the disc, or lugs on the blades may engage spaced slots in the disc. A finger 30 on the shank facilitates adjustment. In a modification, the slicing or shredding device comprises a drum having blades on its periphery, a detachable hopper carried by a fixed part or frame being mounted over the periphery.
