Abstract
386,258. Coke ovens. STILL, C., Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. July 29, 1932, No. 21421. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1931. [Class 55 (i).] In the joint operation of several coke ovens which have means for withdrawing distillates from the interior and the exterior of the charge, the pressure in the gascollecting spaces over the charge of those ovens in the initial stages of carbonization is equalized by the pressure in those spaces of the ovens in a more advanced stage, by the use of a pressure equalizing chamber or main through which gas is withdrawn whereby a constant vacuum may be created in the interior of the coal charge.. This vacuum, which is maintained constant, is adjusted from 40 to 300 mm. of water according to the resistance of the plastic layer in the charge. The gas collecting spaces of ovens a are continuously connected to a common pressure equalizing and gas withdrawal main c by conduits b. A pressure valve g regulates automatically the withdrawal of the gases from the collecting spaces. The distillates from within the charge are withdrawn by suction through conduits d, e, f by a pump i, a throttle valve h being adjusted so that the pressure in the main c is kept constant. The pressure in the main c is controlled by a gas regulator (not shown) which may actuate the throttle h, or control the pump i.
