Abstract
385,824. Cable joints. QUANTE, W., 353, Uellendahlerstrasse, Elberfeld, Wuppertal, Germany. April 25, 1932, No. 11900. Convention date, April 27, 1931. Addition to 376,593. [Class 38 (i).] A machine for splicing cables by performing successive operations of gripping, stripping, twisting, severing and releasing the wires as described in the parent Specification, has the operations of opening and closing the gripping jaws performed by separate levers. The jaws 7, 10, Fig. 2, are mounted on a spindle on a sliding carriage 21. The jaws are forced together by a spring 9, the movable jaw having an arm 8 carrying a roller by which it is opened by means of a bar 6 common to all the clamps and moved by a lever 5. The jaws are held open by a detent roller 14, Fig. 3, that engages a projection on the bar 6 and is released by means of a lever 12, allowing the jaws to spring together. The blade 17 in the jaw 7 is adjustable by a screw 19 so that it cuts through the insulation only, the movement of the jaw being limited by a stop 16. The insulation is stripped by drawing back the carriage 21 and the jaws are then rotated by gearing to splice the wires.
