Abstract
376,593. Cable splicing machines. QUANTE, W., 353, Uellendahlerstrasse, Elberfeld, Wuppertal, Germany. Oct. 27, 1931, No. 29809. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1930. [Class 38 (i).] Comprises a cable jointing machine in which the operations of cutting, stripping, twisting, &c. are performed by moving handles which are arranged in suitable positions for convenient handling. A machine for jointing four-cored cables is illustrated. The four pairs of ends are passed through the jaws of grippers 6, Fig. 1, and slots in cutting blades 32, 33. Movement of the handle 2 cuts the ends to length, the slots in blades being arranged so that the pairs of ends are cut successively. Pressure on a lever 1, Fig. 2, closes the gripper jaws by means of a plate 8 which engages with annular recesses in the grippers. The grippers are carried by a framing 10, Fig. 4, mounted on slides, pressure on a lever 3 causes horizontal movement of the frame to effect stripping of insulation from the wires by means of the grippers. Rotation of a handle 4 will, through suitable gearing, rotate the grippers to twist together the pairs of conductors. The twisted ends are cut to length by means of knives 22, 23, Fig. 5, operated by a lever 5. A shaft 16 geared to the lever 5 has two cranks 17, 18. When the arm 5 is pressed, crank 17, by means of levers 20, moves the knife vertically into operating position against stops 27, 28, additional movement being absorbed by a spring coupling 21. The additional movement also rocks a bell-crank lever 24 from the crank 18 so that a roller 26 engages the blade 23 and moves it relative to blade 22 to effect cutting. The parts are returned to their original positions by springs 29, 30. Specification 370,456 is referred to.
