Abstract
381,691. Wheels. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO., 1144, East Market Street, Akron, Ohio, U.S. A. Sept. 14, 1931, No. 25693. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 144 (ii).] A wheel with a plurality of rims for pneumatic tyres has the rims of different width between the tyre-engaging flanges, so that each tyre bears a portion of the load. In the case of a dual rim, the inner rim A is wider than the outer rim B. Tyres 22 of the same dimensions are mounted on both the rims but with the inner tyre, i.e. the one nearer the axle, the bead portions are further spaced apart. This increases the air volume of the inner tyre which accordingly has a greater area of contact with the road. The inner tyre can thus support the greater load which results on cambered roads. This prevents the excessive wear of the inner tyre ordinarily resulting with dual tyres.
