Abstract

594,588. Slicing vegetables &c. SWIFT, Ltd., B. & P., and LATHAM, H. F. Feb. 5, 1945, No. 2892. [Class 5 (i)] A bowl-type or other cutting machine having a number of knives mounted in a knife head 9 and adjustable radially thereon is characterised by the provision of a toothed member 20 on the drive spindle 1 of the machine which directly engages teeth 19 on each knife so that by relative movement between the knife head 9 and toothed member 20 all the knives may be simultaneously and uniformly adjusted. In the form shown the knife head is mounted on bearings 2 on the drive spindle 1 and carries three blades 4, 5 and 6. Each blade is formed with a pair of guiding edges 7 and 8 which enable it to slide between dogs 10 formed on collars 11 and 16 which separate the blades from one another. Rack teeth 19 formed inside an elongated slot 18 in each blade co-operate with a toothed sleeve 20 rotatable on the drive spindle to effect simultaneous radial movement of the blades. The toothed sleeve is rotated by a collar 23 and a lock-nut 29 clamps the knife assembly in any adjusted position. In a modification, the toothed sleeve 20 is integral with the spindle, the knife head as a whole being rotatable to effect the adjustment.
