May 30, 1931, No. 15919. [Class 89 (iii).] The movable wire cutter of a stapling or discontinuous wire-stitching machine is provided with several cutting edges, any one of which can be brought to operative position by reversing the cutter either longitudinally or transversely, and different portions of each edge can also be brought to operative position by a lengthwise adjustment of the cutter, neither adjust. ment requiring the use of any tool. As shown, the cutter A has cutting edges A<1> .. A<4>, and is given an angular cutting motion by a bar C reciprocated by a cam C<1>. One end of the cutter is loosely engaged in a slot C<3> in the bar C, and the other end is pivoted by a readily-removable pin E<1> to a lever E pivoted at E<2> to the machine frame, a pivot hole A<5> being provided at each end of the cutter. The upper end of the lever E is engaged between collars F<1>, F2 on a screw F adjustable in a threaded hole in the machine frame. By removing the pin E<1> and suitably reversing the cutter, any cutting edge can be brought to operative relation with the fixed cutter B. By adjusting the screw F, any portion of each cutting edge can be brought to such operative relation.
