Rotary machines; printing-surfaces.-A rotary lithographic printing-machine for single-colour or multi-colour printing comprises an impression cylinder and one or more printing-cylinders provided with a covering of rubber, linoleum, or other supple non-metallic material prepared for the direct application thereto of the printing ink and for receiving moisture, for the non-printing portions. The cylinder a is provided with one, two or more rubber plates b on which the design is produced by passing an inked zinc plate or a print therefrom between the cylinder a and impression cylinder e. Prior to receiving the design, the plates b are roughened and treated with acetic acid. For perfecting, the cylinder e may have an offset blanket and receive a sheet at alternate revolutions. In a web-printing machine, two printing cylinders may coact to print simultaneously on both sides of the web passing between them.
