368,484. Wheels for vehicles. OWEN, A. G. B., New Hall, Sutton Coldfield, and DOWNS, R. W., Marquette, Lichfield Road, Walsall. Feb. 6, 1931, No. 3781. [Class 144 (i).] Suspension-spoke wheels.- Relates to wheels of the kind in which the hub shell is offset axially from the rim so that accommodation is left for brake drum or steering swivel elements within the width of the rim, and consists in a construction wherein the inner end of the hub shell is substantially in the central plane of the rim, zones at opposite ends of the hub shell being connected with the rim solely by two crossing sets of individual spokes of which that set from the outer zone reaches the rim at the central plane thereof, or between the latter and the outer edge of the rim, while the set of spokes from the inner zone of the hub shell engages the rim nearer its outer edge. The hub shell is formed as a cup-shaped pressing with a radially-extending flange at its inner end, the margin 21 of the flange being substantially inclined to the hub shell axis. This margin is connected to a flat portion 5 of the rim on the outer side of the central well 3 by tangential spokes 20 which are substantially coplanar and are joined to the margin in two close parallel rows. The other set of spokes 13 comprise half the number of the first set and are in substantially radial planes, but considerably inclined to the plane of the rim. They connect the well 3 with the outer end of the hub shell in two close parallel rows.
