367,127. Utilizing tidal energy. McHENRY, S. B., General Delivery, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Jan. 19, 1931, No. 1731. [Class 69 (i).] A plant for the utilization of tidal energy comprises a pontoon 3, Figs. 2 and 3, having cylinders 4 adapted to work over pistons 8 which are normally stationary, and to deliver water to hydraulic motors 15 for driving shafts 32. The pipe system between the cylinders and motors has valves 24, 27 linked together by a rod 30 and operated by a lever 31. Brake bands 52 normally hold drums 51 connected by gearing to the piston-rods 7, but are released by flexible means 61 when required to render the plant inoperative. The shafts 32 may have governors 33 controlling friction clutches.
