Abstract
364,388. Clamp fastenings; hinges. BARNES, E., Newton Works, Eyre Street, Sheffield. Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4519. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii).] A clamp has two gripping members and pressure is applied by a cam journalled on adjustable supports while a spring tends to move the members apart. The clamp shown on the right of Fig. 2, supports a rod 10 on the pillar 11. The gripping members 12, 13 have rounded or V-shaped jaws which are held apart by springs 17 arranged over studs 15 projecting from the member 12. The studs carry screws 16 projecting through the member 13, and the supports 23 which carry the operating cam 20 are held on the screws by nuts 24. The position of the supports 23 is determined by distance pieces 25. A stud 27 projects from the gripping member 12 and carries a nut 28 to apply pressure to a member 26 for the purpose of clamping the rod 10. Springs 30 tend to keep the gripping members apart. The end of the rod 10 carries a screw clamp which supports an article 35 so that it can be adjusted in any desired position with regard to the pillar 11. The rod 10 carries a gripping member faced with fibre in cup-shaped member 41 and this engages a fibre disc in a cup 39 on the member 36. The engaging members are held in the desired angular relation by a clamping screw 43, and a spring tends to keep them apart. A similar clamp held by the screw 48 permits direct angular movement of the article 35.
