Abstract
Diiodomethane sulphonic acid, or an alkyl substitution product thereof, is prepared by reacting an a -halogen acetic acid, or an aliphatic substitution product thereof, with a neutral sulphite and treating the reaction product at high temperature with iodine.ALSO:The production of X-ray photographs of hollow portions of warm-blooded organisms is facilitated by the introduction thereinto of a contrast medium comprising a solution of an inorganic or organic salt of iodo- or diiodo-methane sulphonic acid, or an aliphatic substitution product thereof. The substances are preferably employed in 15-20 per cent aqueous solution and may be administered intravenously or directly into the part to be photographed. Particular substances referred to are sodium iodo methane sulphonate, sodium 1-iodo-ethane-1-sulphonate, and sodium diiodomethane sulphonate. Diiodomethane sulphonic acid and alkyl substitution products thereof, are prepared by reacting an a -halogen acetic acid, or an alkyl substitution product thereof, with a neutral sulphite and treating the reaction product at high temperature with iodine.
