[Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii).] A combined pillion seat and luggage-carrier for motor .cycles comprises an. underframe a and a top c pivoted thereto on a shaft d.and acted upon by springs k, e, the springs being locked in the relative position shown when the top c is used as a seat, but being movable to another position to enable the top, when not acting as a seat, to be pressed by the spring k against luggage carried on the underframe, so as to clamp it thereto. The shaft d is mounted in a U-shaped member b on the underframe a, and the spring k comprises coils mounted on a sleeve on the shaft d, its ends engaging an inverted U-shaped member l on the seat top c and its central looped part being connected by a locking-device r, m to the front ends of the tension springs e, the rear ends of which are connected to the member b by a bolt f adjustable in a slot o. The springs k, e are locked in the relative position shown, by the engagement of projections at the ends of the plate r with notches in the front edges of the member l. When the device is to be used as a carrier, the locking-device r, m is released and moved downwards into engagement with the member b, thus allowing the spring k to depress the top c into clamping engagement with luggage placed on the underframe a or on a frame g, g<1> foldable thereon; or luggage s may be clamped against the frame g in the turned-up position shown in dotted lines. The frame g, g<1> can also be unfolded backwards and downwards as indicated to form a trunk carrier.
