361,221. Bowden and like mechanism. ARENS, C. A., 6541, South Winchester Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. March 2, 1931, No. 6423. Convention date, March 22, 1930. [Class 80 (iii).] A device designed to transmit either a push or a pull comprises a rigid end-piece 4, through which a tension wire 11 is looped at 9, a close-coiled casing 12 for the wire, all of which are united by solder 13, and a flexible casing 15 of flat wire. At the remote end a piece of piano wire 18 is placed alongside the wire 11 to prevent buckling of that part of the combined cable situated between the end of the casing 15 and the part 19 to be operated; these parts are also united, preferably by solder. The remote end of the casing is supported by a bracket 24, which may be some distance along the casing as shown by dotted lines; in the latter case, the loop 22 and screw 23 used for connecting the end of the combined cable to the part 19 are placed as shown at 22. The piece 4 and knob 8 are prevented from rotating by means of a lug 6 working in a groove 5 in the piece 4. The connection of the cable to the part 19 may be by means of a piece or rod similar to the piece 4. In a modified construction in which solder is not used, the loop 9 is passed over a projection on the piece 4.
