Abstract
359,606. Stuffing box substitutes. RAM, G. H. E. DE, 125, Avenue de la Reine, Boulogne-sur-Seine, France. Aug. 6, 1930, No. 23580. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1929. [Class 122 (v).] Means for maintaining a fluid-tight joint between a rotating or oscillating shaft 1 and its housing 2 comprises one or more discs 4 bearing resiliently against radial surfaces 3, 6 on the shaft and housing respectively, with or without the interposition of packing 5, 6. The bearing pressure of the disc is adjusted by a set screw 8 in the housing adapted to move the shaft relatively to the housing. Alternatively the collar 3 may be adjustable relatively to the shaft. The disc 4 may be initially flat or dished. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the discs may be fixed to the shaft or to the casing.
