Abstract

265,104. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Samuelson, F. Oct. 8, 1926. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-In packing for turbines &c. of the type comprising a sleeve 5 secured to the casing and co-operating with a sleeve 4 on the shaft, a ring 9 interposed between the flange 6 on the casing and the flange 8 on the sleeve 5 makes a flat and radial joint with the flange 6 and a spherical joint with the flange 8, in order to permit radial and angular adjustment of the sleeve 5 during erection. The ring is clamped by the screws 7 which secure the sleeve, the outer face of the flange 6 being spherical and concentric with the spherical surfaces on the ring 9 and flange 8. To facilitate assembly the edges 11 of the flange 6 and ring 9 are bevelled. Specification 173,446 is referred to.
