357,194. Moulding buttons &c. from thermo plastic materials on rotary-table machines. EATON, M. M., 18, Brearley Street, Birmingham, and VREDENBURG, J. C., 2, Charterhouse Square, London. March 20, 19.30, No. 8977. [Class 87 (ii).] Apparatus for moulding synthetic resin'and like thermoplastic material comprises in combination a rotary member carrying a plurality of dies, means for applying pressure to the dies while they are in motion between a charging and discharging position and a heated chamber enclosing all the above parts. In one example, Fig. 1, the articles are formed in moulds i on a rotating table driven by worm gear e. Each mould is charged on passing the hopper n, and the material is compressed by plungers c which move in unison with the table and are depressed against the action of springs k by the fixed cam j. Heating apparatus p of any suitable kind is provided within the enclosing chamber a. When making perforated articles such as buttons, the latter are raised on the plunger projections which form the holes, and are stripped by the under surface of the plate d. In one modified construction toggles are introduced between the fixed cam and the plungers. Fig. 9 shows another toggle mechanism in which is the fixed cam and 6 the toggles extending between the part t of the plunger and the rotary head s. In another construction similar to Fig. 1, the worm-driving gear is mounted on the top of the casing instead of inside. In another modification the plungers are raised and lowered by screw mechanism, being rotated by engaging toothed segments for this purpose. Similar mechanism can also be used for rotating the lower parts of the plungers to form a screw thread in the moulded articles.
