[Class 105.] A recording device for investigating the speed of vehicles comprises three, switches placed in the path thereof, the first switch actuated by a vehicle travelling in either direction releasing the driving clock of the recorder, the actuation of the remaining two switches causing the recorder to record a mark the length of which is a function of the speed of the vehicle. A vehicle passing over switch I completes a circuit from the battery f, through the earth, through switch c, electromagnet u<1> and time switch z. The magnet armature b is rocked to the left, closing contacts h, k, i and opening contact d. The closing of contact i establishes a circuit/, n, i, t, m to operate an electromagnet t which releases the clockwork mechanism of a travelling-tape recorder w. When the vehicle passes over switch II a circuit is formed through the electromagnets y to operate the marking device on the tape, a retaining contact x continuing the record until the vehicle passes. over switch III.
