Abstract
276,199. Wehling, A. Nov. 18, 1926. Automatic speed control - indicating setting of controlling apparatus. - The throttle-controlling mechanism is connected to a set of stop members each corresponding to a definite throttle opening and being made operative one at a time by electromagnetic means, so that the throttle-opening, and therefore the speed, is limited to that set bv the particular stop operated. An indicating device shows which speed limit has been selected. The throttle 4 is controlled by a pedal 1 connected also by links 3, 6 to a spindle 7 carrying cams 14 set in step fashion. Each cam operates in conjunction with a stop arm 9 normally held out of contact by a spring 13 but brought into the path of the cam by an electromagnet 17 when the magnet circuit is closed by a switch handle 8. The switch carries contacts each of which corresponds to one of the magnets 17, so that when the switch handle is on one contact the corresponding magnet is energized and its stop 9 actuated, while all the other stops are inoperative. Corresponding to each magnet and stop there is a secondary magnet 18 the circuit of which is closed at 11, 23 by the stop 9, each of these magnets when energized bringing into view an arm 16 showing the speed limit corresponding to the particular stop selected by means of the switch 8.
