Abstract

354,837. Moulding casein &c. by extrusion. ERINOID, Ltd. and LEGGAT, A., 58, Coleman Street, London. May 17, 1930, No. 15158. [Class 87 (ii).] Decorative patterned rods and tubes, of casein and like material, are formed by extrusion in an apparatus having a multiple-chambered head receiving various coloured ingredients in the separate compartments and forcing them through dies with alternate slit-like orifices connected to each compartment so that interleaved flat ribbons of different colour are delivered to a common mixing-chamber before they pass to the extrusion outlet. In the form illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the materials are delivered by worms through the pipes 8, 9 respectively to a die 13. Thin strips of one colour pass through the orifices 20, Fig. 2, in the die so as to alternate with similar strips of the other material passing through the slits 21. The strips are compressed in the chamber 16 into a multi-coloured rod which finally passes through the outlet die 17. The die 13 is clamped to a cylinder 2 by means of a conical-headed bolt 14 and the combined cylinder and die is clamped as a unit against the shoulder 18 by the nut 15. A core may be screwed on to the conical head of the bolt 14 for the production of tubes.
