Abstract
268,652. Levy, L. A. Sept. 17, 1926. Apparatus for making filaments.-An extrusionhead for use in the spinning of artificial silk &c. comprises a pair of plates a, b, Fig. 2, provided with opposed cavities c, d and suitably bolted together, filtering-material e secured between the plates, and a series of outlet passages in the plate b, each leading to a spinning nozzle i but controlled by a screw-down valve q or other adjustable device in such manner that the amount of solution passing to the nozzle may be regulated or even cut off. As an alternative, the amount of solution passing may be regulated by providing a greater or shorter length of a narrow passage, for which purpose the threaded portion of the valve q, Fig. 5, is extended so as to overlap the outlet passage j, and the crests of the threaded portion are removed to form a narrow passage t. The spinning nozzles i are mounted on jointpieces k, Figs. 2 and 4, screwed in the plate b, and are secured thereto by screwed caps l; the nozzles i are flanged, being supported, together with discs p of filtering-material, between rubber washers o', n<1>, Fig. 4, and secured in the caps l by means of screwed collars o. A piece h, Fig. 2, of metallic gauze supports the filtering material c.
