Abstract
Disubstituted tetrazoles of the pentamethylenetetrazole type are prepared by treating the corresponding halogen-substituted imide-chlorides with hydrazoic acid or azides, and then eliminating the halogen by reduction. According to the example, e -leucine lactam is heated with phosphorus pentachloride in xylene, the imide-chloride of dichlorleucine lactam isolated and added to a solution of hydrazoic acid in benzene; the resulting dichlorpentamethylenetetrazole is then reduced with zinc dust and acetic acid giving pentamethylenetetrazole. Specifications 250,897, 257,418, and 287,924, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to.
