[Class 74 (ii).] Relates to transfer mechanism comprising a circle of quills upon a ring carried by a hinged arm or carrier so that the quills can be inverted over the needles of a circular machine for transferring a ribbed top to the needles. Means controlled by the usual pattern mechanism are provided for preventing inversion of the point ring 11 to transfer position during knitting and until the needle cylinder has been locked against rotation with the needles registering with the quills q. The needle cylinder is locked against rotation by a pin 36 passing through a hole in the bed plate B into a hole 51 in a bevel gear 37 which rotates with the needle cylinder. The locking pin 36 is carried by a lever 42 controlled by levers 70, 71, 460 from the pattern drum 120 so that the pin 36 cannot lock the cylinder until the machine is ready to receive a new ribbed top. A plunger 40 carried by the lever 42 engages a projection 39 on the carrier arm 16 and prevents the arm being swung into operative position until the pin 36 has been allowed to drop into the hole 51. Means, com.. prising a lever 72 secured to the latch ring 550 and controlling the lever 70, are provided for preventing the transfer ring being inverted when the latch ring is in operative position.
