Abstract

347,952. Four stroke engines. ARIEL WORKS, Ltd., SANGSTER, J. Y., and TURNER, E., Dale Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham. June 21, 1930, No. 18957. Addition to 330,231, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of]. [Class 7 (ii).] In an engine having four cylinders arranged in parallel pairs with parallel crank shafts a, b connected by spur wheels a<3>, b<3>, the rear shaft b is extended by a flywheel f to which is attached a sprocket wheel f<2>. The drive is taken from this wheel to a clutch and gearbox unit. Crank chambers.-The connecting wheels a3, b<3> are housed within an oil-containing chamber c, c<1>, the crank throws and connecting- rods being outside the chamber but within the crank case. The chamber is in two parts, each part carrying half of the bearings a<6> for the shafts. The upper part is integral with the main crank case. Lubricant may be supplied by a pump after filtration from a reservoir in the main case.
