[Class 120 (i).] The stripping and cleaning device of the parent Specification is adapted to effect a preliminary combing or heckling of the stripped material at or near the stripping point to extract impurities before re-carding. Two rollers e, f, Fig. 2, furnished with needles are provided together with a fixed knife g, the roller e serving to strip the flats d and the knife g acting with the clothing h of the flats, Fig. 4, to retain the material which is then combed by the roller e. The fibres are then transferred by the roller f to the cylinder a the impurities being thrown through the opening i into the receiver k. The rollers e, f may be replaced by a single high-speed roller l, Fig. 3. If the flats move in the opposite direction to the cylinder a the knife g is dispensed with and the high-speed roller m, Fig. 5, rotated at such a speed that it combs the material in stripping it from the flats. The clothing of the rollers l, m is preferably in the form of widely-spaced tufts.
