Abstract

345,685. Stuffing-boxes. BRITISH METALLIC PACKINGS CO. (1929), Ltd., 7, Princes Street, Westminster, and HUHN, G., 23, Levetzowstrasse, Berlin. Jan. 2, 1930, No. 167. [Class 122 (v).] In metal or carbon packing, of the type in which axial pressure is balanced by recesses 17 on the low-pressure side, spaced pockets are employed instead of continuous recesses, in order to afford better support of the packing against the side walls of the packing chambers. Each packing may comprise a segmental ring and a ring forming a side cover for the segmental ring, or the segmental ring may be recessed to receive an auxiliary ring 43, the segments of which are secured by rivets 16 in displaced relationship, forming tongues 25 and recesses 24. The ring in the high-pressure chamber 33 may fit the rod without pressure, the other rings being provided with gaps between the ends of the segments so that the rings press on the rod.
