Abstract

345,555. Universal joints. RANSOMES, SIMS, & JEFFERIES, Ltd. and GARRETT, F. A., Orwell Works, Ipswich. May 12, 1930, No. 14620. [Class 80 (ii).] In a Hooke's joint for cardan and other shafts, of the type wherein the cross pins 4 are without heads or enlargements and are attached to or integral with a torque ring 5, vibration of the prongs 2 is minimized by tying them together at their free ends. For this purpose there is a tie-rod 8 passing through lugs 7 on the bearing caps 6 of the pins. To prevent misalignment of the bearings there may be a distance piece, such as a tube surrounding the rod, or the rod may be formed with abutment shoulders near its ends.
