344,842. Pumping liquids. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Aug. 30, 1929, No. 26449. [Class 102 (i).] A method of utilizing the energy of liquid which has been conveyed against high pressure consists in transmitting the pressure of the liquid to a second liquid by means of a piston or membrane, and conveying the second liquid against the high pressure. Apparatus for the purpose may comprise one or more pistons K to which the pressure liquid from the chamber A passes through a rotary valve H, the piston on the pressure stroke forcing the second liquid in the cylinder Z through a valve D into the chamber A. At the end of the stroke, the valve H is operated to release the pressure liquid through a pipe L, and the piston is returned by the second liquid entering the cylinder Z through a valve S. This liquid may enter under a pressure head, or it may be forced in by a pump P. In another form, the admission and exhaust of the pressure liquid are controlled by two lift valves operated by hydraulic pistons. In another form, the valves and their operating pistons are coaxial, and the valves are combined lift and piston valves. When a diaphragm is used instead of the piston K, the valves may be operated electrically. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 330,106, [Class 135, Valves &c.].
