Abstract
343,514. Nailing machines. WURSTER, F., 32, Tubingerstrasse, DIETZ, H. and DIETZ, P., 45, Waldhornlestrasse, both in Derendingen, Wurtemberg, and DIETZ, P., 30, Kurfurstenstrasse, Munich, both in Germany, (trading as WURSTER & DIETZ). Nov. 20, 1929, No. 35433. [Class 89 (iii).] Relates to machines for cutting from strip. and inserting, corrugated nails for connecting together two or more planks, of the kind comprising a driver head which is lowered by an eccentric to engage and clamp the planks, and a driver which is reciprocated through the head by an independent eccentric ; and consists in the provision of means for securing a uniform driving stroke of the driver when the planks to be connected are of unequal thickness. As shown, the connecting-rod between the driver head 9 and its operating eccentric 3 comprises crossheads 4, 7 connected respectively to the eccentric and the driver head. The crosshead 7 is slidable on guides 5 secured to the crosshead 4, a spring 6 being interposed between the crossheads. Nuts 19 on the guides allow of adjustment. Thus, when the head 9 moves down and engages a plank 16 of abnormal thickness, the spring 6 yields. This allows the driver 13 operated by the eccentric 11 to make its full normal working stroke, so that its lower end 14 partially penetrates the thicker board, causing the corrugated nail 15 to be fully driven into the thinner board 17, Fig. 5.
