Abstract

342,796. Cable joints and terminals ; insulators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and SCOTT, T. R., Columbia House, Aldwych, London. Nov. 12, 1929, No. 34528. [Classes 36 and 38 (i).] A cable having one or more metallic intersheaths to distribute dielectric stresses as described in Specification 340,303 is connected at a terminal or joint to an insulator divided into sections with intermediate conducting members to which the intersheaths are connected. In the case of a terminal the core is connected by a flexible member 13 to a cap 6 supported on a divided insulator 5, 3 having an intermediate conductor 4 connected to the intersheath 11 by a sliding joint 12 and the sheathing connected to a baseplate 2. Each conductor has an arcing ring 7. In a cable joint the intersheath 18 of each cable is connected to a metal cone 23 that forms an electrostatic shield between the sheathing 21 and its joint with the sleeve 20 and the core coupling 15.
