Abstract

342,292. Treating gases with liquids. OGDEN, J., 2, Blue Boar Court, Market Place, Manchester. Oct. 22, 1929, No. 32090. [Class 55 (ii).] In air and gas cooling, washing and filtering apparatus in which gas is drawn through moistened vertical screens depending in a bath of liquid, the bath accommodates a stationary filter receiving the pump suction for supplying liquid to the sprayers. The screens are of flexible wire mesh 4 and located within a casing 1, connected to a fan 2 which draws the gas in at A and discharges through 2a. Driven from the fan shaft is a pump 7 arranged to draw oil or other liquid through filter 12 from the bottom of the case 1 and deliver it to nozzles 5 which spray the screens. The screens may be in form of flat sheets extending across the whole section of the casing 1, or may be formed into units fitting into recesses in cross members of the casing. The liquid may be cooled in a refrigerating plant. Moisture eliminators 28 are arranged at the outlet of the casing, and an endless band passing over two rollers may be included in the apparatus.
