342,099. Teaching mathematics and surveying. CHESHAM, H. W., Blue Coat School, Psalter Lane, Sheffield. Jan. 4, 1930, No. 360. [Class 146 (ii).] Apparatus for instruction in mathematics or surveying, and which may also be used as a protractor, comprises an index disc 1, provided with a circular scale of degrees, decimals &c., and a cover disc 3, the two discs engaging by means of radial slits, in known manner, for relative rotation, one slit edge of one disc passing through the slit in the other. In a modification, a scale is provided on the back of the cover disc 3. To facilitate rotation, semicircular slots are formed at the ends of the radial slits, directed oppositely in the two discs. The latter are rotatably mounted by means of a flanged, hollow sleeve 5, and a finger-piece 7. When used as a surveying-instrument, the apparatus is mounted either horizontally or vertically on a tripod stand 9, and a sight tube may be passed through apertures in the finger-piece 7.
