Abstract
342,012. Drying fabrics in long lengths. GUMMIWERKE FULDA AKT.- GES., Fulda, Germany. Nov. 6, 1929, No. 33769. Convention date, Sept. 20. [Class 34 (i).] Apparatus for coating fabric with rubber and drying it comprises a chamber divided by horizontal partitions into compartments through which the fabric is passed in succession from top to bottom of the chamber, containers for rubber through which the fabric is passed, or other coating means, being located at different positions in the apparatus. Preferably the coating means are arranged on one side of a vertical partition, and the horizontal partitions on the other. The latter may be hollow structures through which a heating medium is passed. The apparatus comprises a chamber 1, divided by a step-like partition into a heating chamber 2 and a coating chamber. The heating chamber is divided into compartments by hollow horizontal partitions 13, 14, 15, through which steam or other heating fluid is passed. The fabric 3 passes first through the upper compartment of the chamber and is heated, thereafter passing through rubber solution in a container 9. It then passes into the chamber again, and over a roller 12 into the next lower compartment. From this compartment it passes to the coating device 17, where one side is coated. It then passes into the chamber again, and over the roller 20 into a lower compartment. Thence it passes out, and is reversed by means of rollers 22 .. 25, before being coated on the opposite side by the device 28. After a further passage through the heating chamber it is wound on a roller 33. Dry air may be admitted to the chamber from a conduit 34, and heated by means of a heating device 35, preferably electrical. The hot air follows the course indicated by the arrows P1, and escapes through a pipe 36.
