342,000. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Dougherty, R. H.; 127, Bruce Street, Scotia, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 1, 1929, No. 33278. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1928. [Class 39 (i).] In transmitting valves, a conductor 13, Figs. 1 and 3, to an electrode such as the filament passes through an inverted stem 12 re-entering a tube 22 itself reentering the envelope 1 and is supported at an intermediate point by an insulating disc 15 with an aperture slidably engaging the conductor, the disc being supported from the exterior of an extension 21 of the tube 22. The disc 15 may be made in two parts of glass, quartz or lava and is held in, and has projections 19 overhanging, a clamp 16 supported by arms 18 from a clamp 17 around the tube 21. The stem 12 is thus kept cool by positioning it remote from the electrodes and by the shielding action of the disc 15 and is relieved of mechanical strain. The tube 21 is made separately from, and fused at 23 to, the tube 22. The grid 3 is positioned in the anode 2 by an insulating disc at its lower end and is supported from a band 7 clamped about copper mesh around the tube 21 and connected by a ribbon 8 to a side lead 9. A rod 11 supports the lower end of the filament.
