Vacuum tubes.-A method of welding metal to glass consists in using glass which contains the metal as a constituent. A leading-in wire 21, Fig. 3, of copper, say, may be sealed into a tube 11 of ordinary glass by interposing a drop 41 of glass containing copper. Similarly, a copper cap 2 can be secured to a tube 3, Fig. 2, of ordinary glass, by providing the tube with an end portion 4 of glass containing copper.
