Abstract

340,703. Hand wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, and GOODYEAR, E. F., of Dunlop Rubber Co., Foleshill, Coventry. Nov. 8, 1929, No. 34116. [Class 80 (iv).] In motor-vehicle and like steering-wheels, valve hand wheels, &c., a strengthening-plate 1, having projections 2 to fit over and stiffen the inner ends of the spokes 3, is secured on the boss of the wheel, which is preferably formed of complementary pressings 7, 8, dished centrally at 9, 10 to receive a reinforcing-piece 6. The plate 1 has holes 4, the metal around which may be plunged into holes 5 in the part 6, in order to supplement the securing rivets or screws (not shown). The parts 7, 8 may be united by welding or folding the edges, and may be corrugated to improve the grip. The wheel may be wholly or partly covered with celluloid, fabric, rubber, or a combination thereof. The Provisional Specification describes the formation of grip.ridges on the rubber covering of the rim.
