Abstract
338,291. Stubbs, J. H., and Stubbs, Ltd., J. Oct. 2, 1929. Winding-machines; stop-motions.-In a yarnwinding machine wherein the bobbins are frictionally driven, each bobbin is mounted in a pivoted cradle and is caused to roll off the driving discs on to stationary braking surfaces when the yarn tension becomes excessive. The bobbin 7 is held in a cradle 8 pivoted at 10 to the short arm of a bell-crank lever 11. This lever is pivoted at 12, carries a counterweight 15 on its short arm 14, and a guide pulley 17 and adjustable weight 23 on its long arm. The bobbin is driven from a pair of friction discs 3 by means of discs 5 which are in driving engagement with the bobbin. When the tension in the yarn becomes excessive, the guide pulley 17 is depressed and the bellcrank lever rotated, the bobbin 7 rolls forward on to a stationary member 18, the various parts then being in the positions indicated in dotted lines. The forward motion of the bobbin is assisted by the pull of the yarn, and by the direction of rotation of the driving discs 3. The cradle 8 can be swung about its pivot 10 into a vertical position for bobbin changing.
