Abstract

331,244. Molins, W. E. Dec. 27, 1928. Cigarette - making machines. - Cigarettes severed from a continuous rod are received by a conveyer 2 operable to travel faster than the axial speed of the rod and to deliver the cigarettes to a transverse conveyer 4, the point of discharge from the conveyer 2 being dependent on the axial speed of the cigarettes. As shown, the free end of the conveyer 2 dips downward after passing over an adjustable guide 3, and an adjustable deflector plate 5 guides the cigarettes on to the transverse conveyer 4. When the cigarettes are delivered at normal speed, they are discharged from the conveyer 2 at the point when it begins to dip downwards; but when delivered at a lower speed, the cigarettes travel a distance down the sloping portion of the conveyer dependent on the speed, and are deposited at substantially the same point on the conveyer 4. For separating cork-tipped cigarettes into two rows, alternate cigarettes may be removed from the conveyer by means of a rotary vane as described in Specification 272,997, the remaining cigarettes being deposited in the manner above described.
