A safety razor is provided with a number of blades clamped alternatively with the combplates, adjacent pairs being in staggered relation. Blades of the Gillette, or a modified, type are used and they are covered with a protective coating of enamel or varnish to avoid the necessity for dismantling for drying or like purposes. In the form shown, which provides for five blades, an upper member 3 carries two threaded pins 5 to engage suitably positioned holes in the blades and comb-plates, the assembly being clamped by nuts 12 to a lower member 2 fixed to the handle 1. The teeth of the comb-plates are machined below plate thickness, and one edge of each plate is notched so that in the assembled position the notches form a V thereby facilitating correct assembly. The blades may each carry holes corresponding to the position they are to occupy, or two types only need be used, one, Fig. 14, having six holes 14 and another having four holes. The holes may be in the form of longitudinal slots. The upper part 3 carries an internally threaded projection 4 whereby the assembled razor may be screwed into a stud carried in its casing. In a modification, the pins are inclined to the member 3 and the holes in the comb-plates are drilled slantwise in the same position for each plate. Standard Gillette type blades with no additional holes, are used and the pins touch each side of the outer holes, the pin diameter being chosen to give a suitable blade-cutting position. To make use of the opposite edges, the blades are reversed.
