Abstract

329,509. Rheinische Metallwaarenund Maschinenfabrik. Nov. 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Automatic firearms of the kind in which the barrel and breech mechanism recoil together till the breech is unlocked after which the breech is accelerated relative to the barrel, are provided with an intermediate separate rotary piece between the barrel and breech mechanism by which the unlocking and accelerating movements are effected. The ring e which is screwed to the breech sleeve b is provided with an interruptedthread c<2> for locking the. breech-block d. The ring is rotated by studs c<1> and cam grooves a<3> in the casing. During the initial rotation, the breech-block is unlocked and during subsequent rotation the breech-block is accelerated by means of cams c<5> on the ring adapted to engage shoulders d<3> on the non-rotatably guided breechblock. A spring detent e on the breech-sleeve engages a recessed collar of the ring c to limit its backward rotation, said detent being freed from the recess to permit the unlocking movement by a nose thereon riding up the end of a groove a<4> in the breech-block. In a modification, the barrel may be rotatable relatively to the breech-block and be adapted to function like and in place of the ring.
