Counting-apparatus.-In apparatus primarily for use in factories, warehouses, &c., the state of various operations or of stock supplied or dispatched is registered on one or more receivers each comprising a number of continuous band indicators movable in either of two directions by means of a driving drum connected through differential gearing to oppositely disposed ratchet wheels actuated by electric impulses received from one or more transmitters. As shown in Fig. 1 the apparatus comprises a casing a with a rectangular glass covered opening behind which is arranged a graduated chart b co-operating with a plurality of indicators k the functions of which are designated in spaces c at the top of each column. The lower portion d of the casing is provided with a set of press button switches e arranged in pairs one for advancing and the other for returning the corresponding indicator step by step. Each of the indicators k is carried on a flexible band f, Fig. 2, passing over spaced drums, the upper one g being loose on its shaft and the lower one h having peripheral teeth to engage perforations in the band. Each drum comprises a toothed disc n, Figs. 4 and 5, and flanged drums within each of which is secured an arcuate plate o carrying a planet pinion p meshing with a sun wheel q integral with a ratchet wheel r. The ratchet wheels on the opposite sides of each drum are actuated by pallets t, Fig. 3, on pivoted plates u each of which is carried by the spring controlled armature v of an electromagnet w. The switches e may be arranged at a transmitting station and the indicators at remote positions. The switches e may be replaced by a rotary transmitter operating a make and break device through a change over switch or separate transmitters arranged in pairs may be provided.
