Selective signalling apparatus. -Relates to apparatus for repeating at a distance manually transmitted orders or the indications of apparatus such as a totalizer. As shown, orders transmitted by a manually operated handle 12 are signalled by an indicating drum 29. The handle 12 controls a contact arm 15 which co-operates with a series of contacts 1, 2, 3, &c. corresponding to the orders on the dial 13 and connected to corresponding contacts in the series 1<1>, 2<1>, 3<1>, &c. on a stationary plate at the receiver. A group of contacts the number of which is one less than the number of contacts 1', 2', 3<1>, &c. is mounted on a rotatable carrier 35 and is adapted to cooperate with all except one of the contacts 1<1>, 2<1>, 3<1> in each indicating position. The carrier is mounted on a shaft 33 carrying an escapement wheel 34 and adapted to be driven through friction gearing by a continuously driven shaft 30. The indicating drum also is geared to the shaft 33 and the arrangement is such that when the contact arm 15 is set into a signalling position the circuit of an escapement magnet 36 is completed over the appropriate contact at the receiver to permit the shaft 33 to rotate through a distance corresponding to one tooth of the escapement wheel 34 and thereby bring the succeeding order on the indicating drum into view and move the contact carrier 35 one step to again complete the circuit of the magnet 36 over the line selected by the transmitter. This cycle of operations is repeated until the selected line is open-circuited at the marked contact of the receiver by the carrier 35. In this manner a number of impulses is transmitted over the selected line to operate the indicating drum into a position corresponding to the setting of the transmitter. Distributors G, H are provided to facilitate the operation of a plurality of receivers by a corresponding number of transmitters in order to obtain a composed signal. The transmitters and receivers are connected to the outer contacts of the distributors G, H respectively and the arrangement is such that the contact arms 25, 26 mounted on a common shaft bring into operation corresponding transmitters and receivers successively. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also states that the indicating drum may be driven directly from the ratchet and pawl mechanism. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
