Abstract

322,527. Tucker, S. Sept. 7, 1928. Flotation processes.-In a process for the frothflotation separation of finely-divided copper from minerals or the like containing it in a reduced or metallic state, the copper before or during the flotation processes is treated with a cyanogen compound, e.g. an alkaline cyanide. An agent containing the xanthic radicle, which assists the flotation and an alkaline modifying agent such as sodium silicate, may also be added. The mineral containing the copper in segregated form may be produced by the process described in Specification 250,991, [Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], or by heating the mineral in a reducing gas to produce copper at a temperature lower than the melting point of copper, and grinding the product if necessary. Specifications 185,242, [Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], and 255,961 also are referred to.
