Abstract
321,989. Rastetter, W. C. Aug. 24, 1928. Folding seats; backs.-A folding chair comprises a rigid frame constituting a back support 1 and front legs 2 and carrrying a transverse seat-supporting rod 3, a folding seat 10, rear legs 4 pivoted on the rod 3, and members 22, 23 mounted on the rear legs 4 adapted to engage with plate members 12 secured to the sides of the seat, and forming a reinforcement therefor, whereby .upon unfolding the seat the rear legs are extended into operative position. A plate member 12 is shown separately in Fig. 2 and includes a flange 13 with oppositely disposed spurs 14, 15 to engage the seat frame 10 and seat bottom 11. and on extension 16 which operatively engages at 17 with a jaw 23 on the member 22. The unfolding of the seat may be limited by a stop 28 carried by the arms 7 pivoted at 8 and having a slidable engagement 6, 9 with the rear legs 4. The back 29 may consist of a flexible plate of laminated wood which is bent into a convex formation as the seat is unfolded.
