Abstract

320,477. Haughton, J. W. Sept. 3, 1928. Coating materials in long lengths; coating yarns.-Apparatus for moistening fabrics, yarns, or the like comprises an endless band 1 of absorbent material passing around rollers 3, 4 immersed in water in a tank 2. The band passes around a larger roller 5 and superfluous moisture is squeezed from the band by its passage between this roller and an adjustable roller 6. The fabric or yarn 11 is led in contact with the band between the roller 5 and a pressure roller 10. To provide for a longer contact between the fabric or yarn and the band, guide rollers 10a, 10b for the fabric &c. may be provided. Alternatively guide rollers for the band may be provided whereby it is given a horizontal travel after passing between rollers 6 and 5 and before passing between rollers 5 and 10, and also after leaving these rollers. The three rollers 5, 6, 10 may be aligned horizontally or vertically and a single immersed roller may be used. Two separate pairs of pressure rollers may be used in place of the three rollers 5, 6, 10, one pair being used for removing the superfluous moisture, and the other pair for squeezing the fabric or yarn and the band. The apparatus may be duplicated whereby both sides of the fabric are treated. The rollers may be covered with rubber.
