Abstract

Metallic-vapour apparatus; vacuum tubes.- Back-firing in gas or metallic-vapour rectifiers is prevented by arranging the anodes close to one another so as to avoid glow discharge between them. Anode surfaces that may cause glow discharge or are ineffective in the direction of the normal discharge may be coated or screened with insulating material. The cathode may be of mercury or other liquid metal or alloys, or may be incandescent in gas rectifiers. The anodes may be arranged in the coldest part of the condensation space of metallic-vapour rectifiers.
